Introduction
Purpose
The Sales Commission Simplified is a simple enhancement of the standard sales commission feature in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It provides a tool for defining commissions % (percentage) and commission period per salesperson and produces a sales commission worksheet (report).
To get the app visit our d365 Microsoft Marketplace - Sales Commission .
Feature Overview
The app enhances sales commission calculation for the sales team:
-
Allows definition of sales commission for each salesperson
-
Calculates the sales commission based on sales invoices assigned to the salesperson
-
Produce a sales commission worksheet for reporting and payment
Setup and Configuration
To use this app for calculation of sales commissions to the sales team, there are a few setup and configuration steps.
Employee Assigned as Salesperson
The app validates that the salesperson (code) is associated with an employee record for payment purposes.
Search and navigate to Salespeople/Purchasers to view the list of salespersons in the team.
Select and open a salesperson card.
Example:
- In the Commission Employee No. field, select the employee associated with this salesperson code.
NB: Ignore the Commission % field as it will not be used.
Configuring Sales Commission
This app provides a more detailed sales commission definition page. This is the heart of the sales commission structure used in computing commission for each salesperson.
Search and navigate to Sales Commission Setup page to view the list of salespersons and their commission setup.
Example:
-
To edit the list, click menu option Edit List.
-
To create a new commission structure, use menu option +New.
For the new record, define the following fields:
-
Salesperson Code — Select the salesperson code for the commission scheme. The name appears by default.
-
Start Date and End Date — Select the dates for the commission qualifying period.
-
Description — Enter a description for the sales commission journal line.
-
Commission % - This is the % commission calculated on the posted sales volume ($).
Calculating Sales Commission
The app automatically calculates sales commission based on sales orders/invoices posted (posting date) between the qualifying dates in the Sales Commission setup. Calculation is taken from the posted sales invoice lines where the item or item category falls into the qualifying commission line defined.
Sales Commission Worksheet
The Sales Commission Worksheet is used to calculate sales commission per salesperson/employee with sales invoices posted within the qualifying period.
Search and navigate to Sales Commission Worksheet to open the page.
Example:
In the Filter section, use any of the 3 filters as selection criteria for posted and paid sales invoices.
-
Salesperson Code — Using this field alone will select all posted sales invoices for this sales rep (within the qualifying dates period).
-
Start Date and End Date — Using these fields will select posted sales invoices for all salespeople defined in Sales Commission Setup (with the commission qualifying dates within the date filter).
Use the menu option Actions > Calculate Commission to generate the commission calculation.
NB: The calculation validates that these posted sales invoices are paid.
Example:
Since no dates are included in the Filter fields, the system selects all posted sales invoices for the salesperson code in the filter.
After the sales commissions are calculated, any changes to the commission definitions in Sales Commission Setup will require a re-calculation. This can be done first by removing all the existing calculated sales commission lines in the worksheet.
Select menu option Actions > Refresh Commission Worksheet.
Registering Sales Commission
After the sales commissions are calculated and reviewed, the next step is to Register the batch of Sales Commissions.
This is achieved in the Sales Commission Worksheet by using menu option Actions > Register Commission Worksheet.
Example:
Once selected, the worksheet lines will be registered and no longer appears in the worksheet.
To view these registered worksheets, search and navigate to Registered commission worksheet.
Example:
Registered commission worksheet lines maintain the historical records of sales commissions computed for the sales team.
NB: All registered commission worksheet (paid and posted invoice) lines will not be included in subsequent calculations of sales commissions.
With the use of Analysis mode in this Registered commission worksheet page, a report can be created to determine the sales commission payout to each salesperson.
Example:
Sales commission per quarter
Sales commission per month
Detailed sales commission per salesperson
